Kyokaku Shomantei, a prominent master in kamigata style of rakugo, is on the brink of death. One of his pupil's, Kyoji, asks: - Kyoji: "Master... Any last wish? Anything you want to do before you...?" Kyokaku mumbles weakley. Kyoji is shocked but obliges the old master's dying request. Kyoji brings a woman to Kyokaku's deathbed, and she displays herself to him. Kyokaku then feebly shakes his head looking as if he will break into tears any moment.
- Kyokaku: "Idiot! I said "see the sea." NOT--"
- Kyoji: "The sea...!"
- Kyota: "Sea!"
- Shigeko: "...!"
- Master dies three minutes later.
The film is packed with zany stories about a bunch of storytellers. The world is intoxicating and full of comedy as the film is overloaded with madly hilarious episodes from "Chako's Seaside Story in Awaji Island," to Kyota's episode of "I Lost My Virginity to a Manta Ray," and "Marijuana Party with Lawn Grass in Hawaii." The film is filled with turmoil and intrigue! Soon after Kyokaku's death, his wife and senior pupil Kyoji die, and a series of humorous and heart-crushing stories are revealed at their wakes. At Kyokaku's funeral, the pupils drag their master's corpse and together put on a "Deadman's cancan dance." And that's just the beginning, with each funeral being a amazingly unique and striking.
