Here's another film that took me completely by surprise. A Hollywood remake of Takashi Miike's "Chakushin ari," the movie follows a group of people who receive phone calls from their former selves, only to discover the exact date, time and details of their death.

US version of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" introduced for American fans! Haruhi and SOS brigade rule the US.

There are works of anime that are more ambitious than The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. There's anime that's more artistic. Anime that's more cerebral. More exciting... More dramatic... But, few anime are as well tailored to their purpose as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Basically, it is THE anime for the anime fan. There are episodes that can amuse casual viewers, but the point of the series is to get the already self-indentified fans excited and thinking about this series. It's ability to intelligently poke fun at conventions of anime without being an outright parody, along with its ability to indulge in those conventions without being hypocritical allows it to breezily capture the appeal of popular trends.

Lucky Star Announcement about US release

Kadokawa Pictures USA, Inc. and Bandai Entertainment, INC., announced that it will be releasing the anime series Lucky Star in North America in 2008. The announcement was made in a unique way - a surprise trailer at the beginning of Vol. 4 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which was just released.<<

Lucky Star Screening at ImagiAsian Center in downtown LA

Bandai Entertainment Inc. and ImaginAsian Entertainment held a special free screening of the first two episodes of the English versions of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Lucky Star on Saturday April 26th, between 1-3pm at the new ImaginAsian Center in downtown Los Angeles near Little Tokyo. The screening was free and open to the public.

Wendee Lee (Konata) whose previous credits include ”Haruhi” in the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Kari Wahlgren (Kagami) appeared for a brief Q&A as well as an autograph signing in the lobby. As the surprised gifts, the special Lucky Star posters were given to those who came to an autograph signing.

The Girl Who Leapt through Time to begin playing theatrically in LA, NY, and Seattle

May 2, 2008 (Cypress, CA) −Bandai Entertainment Inc. and Kadokawa Pictures USA announced The Girl Who Leapt Through Time will begin its limited theatrical run in the United States in June and August. The release will feature an English subtitled version (with original Japanese soundtrack) and an English dubbed version, playing at different theaters nationwide.

June 13th through 19th the film will play theatrically the same week at both the ImaginAsian Center in Los Angeles, which will feature the English subtitled version, and the ImaginAsian Theater in New York, which will feature the English dubbed version. On August 29th through September 4th the English subtitled version will play at Landmark Theatres’ Varsity Theatre in Seattle. Other theatrical dates will be announced soon.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (also known as TokiKake) was directed by Mamoru Hosoda with original character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion) and features animation from Studio Madhouse. A continuation of the novel The Little Girl Who Conquered Time by Tsutsui Yasutaka, the film centers on a high school girl, Makoto, who gains the power to go backward in time after a near-death accident at a train crossing. Since its release, the film has received great critical accolades and international awards including the ”Best Animated Film” at the thirty-ninth Sitges International Film Festival, ”Animation Grand Award” at the sixty-first Mainichi Film Awards, ”Animation of the Year” at the thirtieth Japan Academy Prize, and received ”Animation of the Year” at the Tokyo International Anime Fair.
